Dinant, Belgium

There are endless amounts of destinations within our range of travel in Euorope. Because of this, I have found myself planning trips to main cities and destinations that I have studied in order to cross dream destinations off of my list. In contrast to this idea, one of my favorite trips so far has been to the (previously unheard of) town of Dinant, Belgium.
Dinant is a treasure of a small town. It is about an hour and a half south of Brussels via train. It is framed by the river and a cliff side. On top of the cliff is a museum built into the citadel that dates back to the 1800's with a dramatic church in the foreground. The city is also the birthplace of the inventor of the saxophone and Leffe beer.
During my three day trip with Morgan Minette, we hiked to the top of the citadel (the museum inside was my most enjoyed afternoon), admired the dark cathedral, learned more about the local abbey that had invented Leffe Beer during the time of the plague to purify water, and spent plenty of time walking along side the river and doing our best to order frites (fries) at local restaurants.
