The last week has been filled with more laughter, crazy happenings, and learning experiences than I ever anticipated. I tried to mentally prepare for this life-changing excursion as much as I could, but since I have never been out of the country before, that only got me so far. The first day here, Paul and Kay took us on a walking tour to show us a few things around our new home city. I think we were all pretty cold by the end of it, but anything beats the weather back home…

From there, we broke off into groups and explored some more on our own. The small group that I stuck with retraced our steps, trying to memorize the non-gridded streets and adjust to the culture and people of Brussels. Every day since, we have ventured a little further than before, discovering new treasures buried in this historic city.

Not everything in Brussels is different than we are used to, but a lot of small details are. Just enough to make it known we are not in the United States anymore. The doors open in- not out. The main language is French, and a little Dutch. They have so many coins…. So many. Everyone moves so fast. They have waffle trucks instead of ice cream trucks.

I am excited to call Brussels ‘home’ for the next few months, and to explore many more places in Europe! Thank u, next
